ANTI – RAGGING POLICY
In recent years, the issue of ragging in educational institutions has gained significant attention due to its detrimental effects on students’ well-being and academic environment. To uphold the principles of safety, respect, and inclusivity, St. Dominic’s College recognizes the necessity of implementing a robust anti-ragging policy under the guidelines provided by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
What is Ragging and Why Does it Need to be Addressed?
Ragging encompasses various forms of physical, mental, or verbal abuse inflicted upon new students by their seniors often as a means of asserting dominance or establishing a sense of hierarchy within the institution. Such practices not only jeopardize the physical and psychological health of victims but also undermine the conducive learning atmosphere essential for academic growth.
Compliance with UGC Regulations: A Priority for St. Dominic’s College
Our College acknowledges the UGC Regulation on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions-2009 as the benchmark for formulating its anti-ragging policy. By adhering to these regulations, our college aims to create a safe and welcoming environment where every student can thrive without fear of harassment or intimidation.
Key Components of the Anti-Ragging Policy:
- Zero-Tolerance Approach: We have adopted a zero-tolerance stance towards any form of ragging. Any student found guilty of engaging in ragging activities will face strict disciplinary action including suspension or expulsion from the college following the severity of the offence.
- 24/7 Helpline: To ensure immediate assistance for victims of ragging, our college provides a dedicated 24/7 helpline where students can report incidents anonymously and seek support from the anti-ragging committee of the college.
- Surveillance Measures: We have implemented surveillance measures across campus premises to monitor and prevent any instances of ragging. CCTV cameras are strategically placed in common areas, hostels, and corridors to deter potential perpetrators and facilitate timely intervention.
- Anti-ragging Committee: We have also established an anti-ragging committee comprising faculty members and administrative staff tasked with monitoring, investigating, and resolving reported cases of ragging promptly and impartially.
Promoting a Culture of Respect and Safety
In conclusion, the formulation and implementation of an effective anti-ragging policy are paramount for maintaining a conducive learning environment at our college. By aligning with the UGC regulations and adopting proactive measures, our college reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding the well-being and dignity of every student. Together, let us strive to create a campus culture rooted in respect, empathy, and solidarity where every individual can pursue their academic aspirations free from the shadow of ragging.
